3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
Hanan Klei is interested in our way of perceiving. In her work she explores the intersections between our perception of reality, imagination and experience.
In her work you see a Playful approach in themes, where human beings most of the time play a center role. Through her work she questions, criticizes or discovers about our being. She approach current topics in a staged way and place characters in a dreamlike world, where sometimes the work almost becomes abstract. Through the choice of a seemingly naive pictorial compositions and her personal painterly expression, she wants to invite the viewer to see certain themes more intensively or from a different perspective. In trying to achieve this the matter paint is as important as the actual depicted. Through her way of painting she tries to not only create an image perceived through a photograph but she searches for a work where viewing and being becomes one.
In the works on display there is an exchange of inner and outer worlds. Through these works she researches the importance of nature on our mental health, and the necessity for awareness of climate change. To protect nature, we must not only talk about it but also identify with it.

Biography
Hanan Klei
Hanan Klei is a queer artist that lives and works in Berlin.
She studied visual arts (with a focus on painting) in the Netherlands, where she was born and is of Dutch-Moroccan descent. Hanan Klei is interested in how we view the world. When we look, we are part of what is being looked at, and therefore what we see is partly our thoughts. In her work she tries to get as close as possible to this way of perceiving. In doing so, she tries to ensure that we are not confirmed in how or what we see, but rather look and experience anew.
