Porous Altar

Porous Altar is a participatory ceramic installation that transforms the idea of the altar into a living, collective ritual.
Ceramic pieces form an open structure where visitors are invited to participate: placing small objects, shaping raw clay, or leaving traces of their presence. Guided by simple instructions, each gesture becomes part of the work, allowing the altar to slowly evolve throughout the festival.
Through these shared actions, the installation becomes a space where boundaries between inside and outside, personal and collective, sacred and everyday begin to blur.
Inspired by ritual traditions and contemporary participatory art, Porous Altar invites reflection on migration, memory, and belonging. What do we carry with us when we move between places? What changes, and what is left behind?
Rather than presenting a finished object, the work opens a space for small acts of care, attention, and transformation, where ritual emerges through the presence and participation of those who enter.

Biography
Renata Salas Rosas
Renata is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on ceramics and is deeply rooted in her cultural heritage. Influenced by pre-Hispanic cultures, her work engages with ritual traditions, symbolic thinking, and collective modes of making. Her recent practice focuses on process, material transformation, and community, shifting attention from the finished object toward gesture, shared time, and relational dynamics. Working with experimental and ancestral firing techniques, she approaches fire as an active collaborator, embracing unpredictability and change. Through installations, participatory works, and ceramic objects, she explores ritual as a contemporary, living practice. She is a member of 90 Mil Ceramics and Pumpwerkstatt.
