The exhibition “MURmur” brings a reflection on the sounds that the seasons and their varying conditions bring about. If the distinctive characteristics of seasons seem to become blurred and if their meteorological conditions become increasingly unpredictable, how do these changes impact their silent movement in an urban context? The sounds of seasons are changing, whether because of altered bird migratory routes, environmental damage or toxic industries, as warned by Rachel Carson in “Silent Spring” (1962). We reflect on these unpredictable states, yet foreseeable paradigms of the future, but also on what seasons have meant for living beings and their rhythms throughout centuries, the present and the future. We sense the hues of light and darkness, the humidity and the pressure in the air, the wind blowing through the leaves and the dimness of the sounds when snow covers an entire landscape. We are reacting to these through sensory responses resulting in a multiplicity of changes. Consequently, architecture, urban spaces and habitats are sometimes precisely built to adapt to specific environmental milieus, mimicking temperate climates and ambient noises, to the comfort or needs of the body. In the exhibition “MURmur”, the works of each artist in the collective are brought into dialogue to address the sound of the seasons not only as something that we can hear but also as a metaphor for an immanent and silent movement.

Delta is an international artist collective founded in 2021 by artists based in Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig. Inspired by the fluid forms of a deltaic terrain—a constant state of deposition and erosion while maintaining its fluid form through interaction with its surroundings—the artists organically introduce a new layer to the present. With their collective exhibitions, they experiment with social and ecological coexistence and circulation, based on their communication and collaboration.

A teaching history steeped in British academia (UEL, Central St. Martins), Jessica Edwards is an independent curator, writer, lecturer & artist/performer working with select artists. Her critical and exhibition writing has been published widely and featured in several acclaimed exhibitions.
