"Public Sorrow" is a poignant exploration of the complex interplay between individual emotions and societal norms in our contemporary world. This evocative series of performances thrusts the artist into the heart of the public transportation system in Neukölln, portraying as a microcosm of our increasingly hyper-individualized society.

Cloaked entirely in black, Diren, stripped of their conventional emotional defenses, undertakes an act of profound vulnerability. As tears stream down their face, they grant themselves the freedom to openly weep, unburdening their soul from the accumulated weight of pain, anger, and frustration that has long been concealed within. In this raw and unfiltered display of sorrow in the public space, the artist challenges the conventional wisdom that grief and emotional turmoil should remain hidden,, silent, and questions why we have become so reluctant to share our pain with one another.

"Public Sorrow" dares to bring the traditionally private and silent realm of mourning into the public eye, laying bare the human capacity for empathy and compassion. By capturing the reactions of unwitting onlookers, the work becomes a mirror to society, reflecting its collective unease with the expression of vulnerability in public spaces.

Through this series of performances, the artist asks viewers to reconsider the boundaries of our emotions and how the society may have inadvertently fortified them. "Public Sorrow" beckons us to ponder the value of sharing our sorrows openly, reclaiming a sense of collective compassion, and redefining the boundaries of public and private in a world where hyper-individualism often trumps our capacity for connection and empathy.
