invisible traces left on our bodies,
drapes of secrecy absorbing any noise.

Invisible traces inhibit or even hinder communication. They distort our perception of our own physique. How is it possible to speak through one's own shame and injury? Where are the safe spaces for these conversations? We lack the words and so they remain anchored in our bodies and part of a structural problem.

The artist visualises these themes primarily through textured sculptures made of clay or lyrical formats. She incorporates the natural element of water as a healing and toning force. Other works address the tactile level of perception, namely how differently we experience and pass on touch.

Jana Grewe

Jana Grewe is a materials scientist, designer and craftswoman. Her artistic work is centred on the medium of clay. Her practice consistently leads her to sculptural vessels that represent a protective spaces. She is also fascinated by tactile textures and how they leave traces on humans and materials.
