C Star 1:100

In 2017, the Identitarian Movement chartered a ship: the C Star. As the lead vessel of their operation "Defend Europe", its role was to disrupt sea rescue missions. On 11 August 2017, the C Star found itself in distress in the Mediterranean.
When a ship is in distress, the nearest vessel is obliged to come to its aid. In the case of the C Star, that was the Sea-Eye, the sea rescue ship of the NGO of the same name.
In the southeast of Berlin, the district of Neukölln is separated from Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg by the Landwehr Canal. The confluence of the Neukölln Shipping Canal and the Landwehr Canal is known as the Dreiländereck – a b where three districts meet. Unlike other inner-German water borders, a place of seemingly little historical weight.
Here, in the shallow waters of the Landwehr Canal, she lies: the C Star. Scale 1:100. Hopefully she won't find herself in distress again.

Biography
Klemens Czurda
Klemens Czurda is an Austrian media artist based in Rixdorf with a degree in Sociology and Media Art. Working with photography and film in conceptual installations — often ephemeral and site-specific — his work addresses social construction, memory culture and the liminal. In more recent works, water surfaces repeatedly, along with the question of our relationships with it.
