4 July 2026 12:00–22:00
The series Drawing Threads by textile artist Mia Akhavan revolves around material narratives and the integration of everyday objects into woven structures. In this series, pens and brushes are woven in plain weave as weft material. Originally tools for drawing that normally act upon a surface, they are here inscribed into the work itself and interwoven with it.
What emerges is a kind of canvas made from the very tools that are usually used to work on it, creating a painting fabric from which new works can be produced.
The textiles refer to the canvas as a classical ground for painting and as a central, yet often invisible supporting medium of the visual arts. What usually remains in the background is brought into focus: the canvas itself becomes both image and tool. Painting ground, painting tool, and sculptural object merge into one, shifting the familiar separation between medium, material, and action.
