In Connection – A choral performance with fluid transitions between audience and ensemble
The choral performance In Connection explores music as a connective element between people. Rather than appearing clearly separated from the audience, the choir initially emerges from within the crowd. Individual voices begin to sing almost imperceptibly and gradually become recognizable as belonging together. Through this shift in perception, a shared sonic space unfolds in which the boundary between choir and audience increasingly dissolves.
The voices gradually condense and momentarily form a visible choir. This formation, however, is not a conclusion but a temporary state. As the structure opens again, the sound becomes permeable once more. Those present are invited to join vocally and become part of the shared sound.
The performance does not follow a linear movement from outside to inside; instead, it makes perceptible how outside, in-between, and inside exist simultaneously and overlap. Identity appears not as a fixed category but as a process that emerges through collective listening and singing.
The piece reflects the polyphonic social reality of Neukölln, where different backgrounds, perspectives, and forms of belonging meet and continually reshape one another.

Biography
Spirited
Spirited is a Berlin-based choir that brings the spirit of the city to life with a powerful, vibrant sound. Under the direction of Ilja Panzer, the group has been performing since 2015 in changing formations of amateur and professional musicians.
Spirited reinterprets jazz, pop, and soul classics, bringing them to the stage – and into open spaces – with a distinctive sound and a strong sense of presence. Alongside traditional performances, the choir develops formats in which the boundary between choir and audience dissolves and collective singing becomes part of the performance.
With energy, passion, and a love for singing together, Spirited creates musical moments shaped by closeness, exchange, and the shared sound of the present.
