3 July 2026 20:00 – 5 July 2026 18:00
“A Room of My Own” is inspired by the childhood practice of creating tiny spaces in which to retreat, as in “caves” made of cushions and blankets. The work explores how we can fulfil this need in adulthood.
Children intuitively build such spaces to organize their emotions and take a break from daily life. These retreats are more than just play areas; they provide a private space where individuals have control over their surroundings, allowing for self-expression, creativity, and emotional processing. The work taps into this childhood longing for a place of comfort and tranquillity, posing the question of how, across diverse living situations, we can create such spaces of our own.The portraits invite reflection on how much space we need for ourselves in order to function in relation to others, capturing moments when these personal retreats are filled with thoughts, feelings, and memories.

Biography

Leah Haug

Leah Haug was born and raised in Berlin. She has been studying at the Ostkreuz School of Photography since 2023.
In her work, she strives to create an intimate connection between the person photographed, the viewer and herself as a photographer. She searches for the invisible tensions that surround us: the inner conflicts, interpersonal relationships and social structures that shape our actions. In her images, she attempts to make personal feelings visible and engages intensively with sometimes abstract forms in order to convey emotions in an unconventional way. She is concerned not only with the visible, but also with what resonates between the lines, between glances and between moments.
