In her series “Having the Blues,” Jette Leder explores the fluid boundary between public resistance and private resilience. The exhibited triptych and accompanying works contrast the loud, fragmented outcry against social and cultural norms (“OUT/SIDE”) with the protective intimacy of collective feminist solidarity (“IN”).
A central element is the reclamation of the color blue: Leder liberates it from traditional art-historical male attributions, transforming it into a symbol of feminine power and diversity. Through the haptic combination of oil painting and direct oil stick, energetic traces emerge that oscillate between resistance and tenderness. The monumental format turns the canvas into an immersive space of resonance, inviting the audience toward a state of radical introspection.

Biography
Jette Leder
Jette Leder (born 1983 in Dresden; lives in Berlin-Friedrichshain) is a self-taught artist dedicated to the visceral poetry of human existence. Inspired by the likes of Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville, she uses painting as a medium to strip away societal layers and expose the raw essence of identity.
Her portraits are characterized by expressionistic color intensity and an extreme proximity to the subject that oscillates between fascination and unease. From a decidedly female perspective, Leder interrogates the boundaries of the body, asking: How much of a fragment is necessary to tell the story of our humanity?
Leder’s work serves as a testament to both resilience and vulnerability—offering a profound invitation to radical introspection.
