The Turkish expression “Gurbet elde bir başına” serves as the conceptual starting point for this painting. Rather than treating borders as fixed lines between inside and outside, the work approaches them as lived emotional and cultural conditions.
The title “Gurbet elde bir başına” refers not only to physical solitude, but also to an emotional and psychological condition often associated with migration. The work approaches “gurbet” as an inner experience — being present yet partially detached — where inside and outside become intertwined rather than opposed.
Through painting, the project explores how belonging, identity, and difference can be subtly negotiated within shared social spaces.
