Simply off the beaten path
Outside Berlin's tourist trail lies the Plötzensee Memorial and the Maria Regina Martyrum Memorial Church in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Both places commemorate the resistance fighters against the Nazi regime who were imprisoned, murdered, and executed there.
In the silence of both places and in remembrance, the question arises as to how much space we give to memory. Since the firewall against the right wing seems increasingly permeable today, it is all the more important not to forget what is pushed aside.
That is where our foundation lies—and our warning.
For me, both places are architectural and emotional contrasts that, when photographed, move between past and present, grief and hope, guilt and memory.
