Living Room - Praxis für Visionen – OUT/SIDE/IN

In the Living Room – Praxis für Visionen – OUT/SIDE/IN is an open format that emerged from work between the Ruhr region and Berlin. It responds by creating temporary third places: spaces between the private living room, the public street, and everyday functional environments. The central element is a mobile 3×3 meter living room pavilion. Its interior walls consist of printed images of real living rooms, developed in advance together with neighbors along Sonnenallee. The pavilion is placed directly in front of late-night shops, bars, or other everyday locations and functions as a threshold space – neither fully inside nor outside. The project takes place simultaneously at two locations along Sonnenallee, connected by the M41 bus line. Visitors are invited to move along this route and experience the same spatial setting in different social contexts. In the afternoon, the pavilions open as places for coffee, conversation, and shared presence. In the evening, the atmosphere shifts through music, DJ sets, or deliberately placed pop and Schlager music. Rather than resolving social fragmentation, the project makes it spatially tangible and temporarily shifts it. Its impact emerges through collective action on site, repetition, movement, and encounter. The resulting works are digitized and mapped in an app, creating a growing archive beyond the festival. More importantly, what remains are the memories of people who dared to try something new.
