The image in the lightbox shows a family celebration, where the main character's appearance is in stark contrast with the surrounding atmosphere. His counterculture look can be perceived as a form of protest. The act of choosing radical self-presentation emphasizes the boundary between the private and the familial / societal.
The work refers to a popular internet image, into which the author inserts himself. This shows the connection between the author’s intimate past and the viral modern image of teenage rebellion.
The author reproduces stereotypes of the 1990s–2000s subcultures broadcasted by MTV. Personal fears and the feeling of apocalypse resonates with end of the millennium hysterics.
Referring to his teenage sensibility the author notes that it was justified.

Biography
Viktor Nikishov
Viktor Nikishov is a contemporary artist who works with photography and lightboxes.
For each photograph, he independently crafts a lightbox from advertising materials: aluminum, plexiglass, LED strips, and uses high-resolution printing.
The choice of these materials, determined by their strict industrial aesthetics, links the author with minimalist and post-minimalist artists. Viktor takes pictures with a medium-format digital camera, which allows him to accurately convey colors and details and work unhurriedly on each frame.
Graduate of MMOMA's Free Workshops (2021). Participant in art residencies, several group exhibitions, and author of zines.
