Lost in Inside
Canan KINALI
3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
I see things like a pomegranate. From the outside, it appears closed, almost inconspicuous. But inside, a luminous diversity lies hidden—an oasis of color, light, and life.
With this perspective, I move through spaces, cities, and encounters. And with this perspective, I photograph. Out/side/in is not a contradiction for me, but a transition: the moment when a surface opens and a hidden space becomes visible.
On a journey through Andalusia—through Córdoba, Ronda, Granada, and other cities—I experienced this time and again. Behind silent facades, gates, and walls, courtyards open up, filled with plants, water, light, and silence. Protection on the outside, an oasis on the inside.
In music and flamenco, I experience a similar movement: You enter a space, and suddenly a dense atmosphere of voice, rhythm, and movement arises. Feelings of love, sorrow, separation, and joy become audible and visible—they get under your skin.
Places like the historic bullring in Ronda also speak of this interplay between outside and inside: between architecture, memory, and history.
My photographs seek out these transitions—the quiet moments when a different reality reveals itself behind a surface. Out / side / in becomes a glimpse into the hidden.
