[SUB] WAYS is inspired by the transportation systems of some of the world's largest metropolises and uses transit networks as metaphors for the collective unconscious, streams of thought that are fragmented, overlapping, and constantly in motion. Rooted in Mirela Fioresy's broader inquiry into the visible and invisible forces that shape individual and collective experience, the underground becomes an image of the systems that organize urban life, flows, routines and boundaries, where strangers share space anonymously and personal stories briefly intersect before dispersing again.

The works take the form of paintings on canvas, built in layered processes. The transit lines are first painted in acrylic with a brush and then developed through meticulous dip-pen detail in fluid acrylic, forming dense constellations of highly detailed symbols. These symbols evoke fragmented and overlapping streams of everyday thought, reflecting the coexistence of millions and the paradoxical search for one's own identity within the collective.

For 48 Stunden Neukölln, the project presents selected works from the series together with [NEUKÖLLN] WAYS, a new painting rooted in Mirela Fioresy's ongoing inquiry into urban identity and developed specifically for the festival through the U-Bahn lines of Neukölln.

Biography

Mirela Fioresy

Mirela Fioresy is a visual artist from São Paulo, Brazil. Her work explores the invisible forces that shape how people relate to themselves, to others, and to their surroundings. Through painting and mixed media, she investigates collective behavior, emotional structures, and the tension between connection and separation.

Her practice is based on layered processes and the resistance of materials; painting serves as a method of observation and inquiry. By examining boundaries, coexistence, and moments of friction, her work reflects the interplay between personal experience and collective as well as urban dynamics.
