Borders are back! Even though we thought we lived in a world that gravitated towards global integration and international cooperation, as recent as 10 years ago. They are the ultimate tool to define what’s different from oneself, to mark the unattainable. With our interactive contribution, we want to create a space that blurs the lines between inside and outside. The separation of here and there, present and past is obscured. The walls aren’t solid borders, but allow for a novel perspective to the respective side beyond.

The osmotic cabinet consists of two semi-permeable membranes that distort what is happening on the other side, thus only granting a glimpse into what’s going on beyond. Employing sound as an integral part of the installation, the inherent separation can be overcome: Inside, you can hear a multilayered soundscape that you can yourself playfully expand by touching the walls in certain spots. Activating “fossils” (artefacts from a distant realm) that are embedded in the walls, will result in not only altering the acoustic experience, but the perception of time will also dilute by means of psycho-acoustic effects. Internal will become external, the past penetrates the now. The experience within the installation can furthermore be influenced by operating buttons outside the enclosure, enabling a dialogue of previously seemingly separate realms of experience.

On top of the centrepiece by Charlotte Hornung and Josa Glück, 5 other artists will tackle this year's topic with their own approach and media, ranging from oil painting to sculptural work.
