ADON VENUS – THEY / THEM
Adon Venus, Annabel Wood, Catharina Frank, Emilia Waterhouse
4 July 2026 20:00 – 5 July 2026 00:00
THEY / THEM combines music, performance and photography into an interdisciplinary work. At its centre is a live performance by Adon Venus in which catchy pop structures meet electronic sounds and precise, direct lyrics. The songs move between irony and seriousness while addressing themes such as non-binary identity, social systems and their inscriptions in bodies, labour, relationships and space.
The project draws on three photographic series that visually articulate key motifs of this exploration. The works employ deliberate, clear symbolism and avoid aesthetic romanticisation in favour of a direct and at times confrontational visual language. Music and image do not function illustratively but rather operate as autonomous layers within a shared spatial setting.
In THEY / THEM, non-binary identity is not understood as a new category but as a shift within existing maps, resonating with the festival theme OUT / SIDE / IN as an ongoing process of re-positioning beyond stable attributions.
Positioned between concert, image installation and performative gesture, the work opens a space in which questions of identity, power and social order are negotiated, placing the audience between a pop moment and political reflection.
