Performance
Voice and Movement

I begin inside.
Where something resonates
before it can be heard.

Personare —
to sound through.

The voice does not belong to me.
It happens through me.
It carries what I am
before I know its name.
Memory lives in it.
Possibility.
Resistance.

When I raise my voice
I may step outside myself —
but more than that
I step into relation.

My inner space opens.
It becomes permeable.
I become audible.
And in becoming audible
I allow myself
to be touched
held
rejected
wounded.
The world answers.

Movement.
The body knows
where language ends.
Feelings take form.
Thought becomes gesture.

I turn the inside outward
and step into contact.

Voice becomes movement.
Movement becomes sound.
I speak with my hands.
I sing with my back.
I listen with my skin.

What happens
when voice and movement
are no longer separate?
Is it an inner world revealing itself?
A body representing life?

I am process.
Becoming.
And in touching the world
my voice continues
beyond me.
You can hear it.
