7, rue paradis
7, rue paradis is an edition consisting of 24 photo postcards. Archival pigment prints. 10 x 15 cm
The photo postcards show the entrance to an imagined destination address –
the act of posting a postcard into the letterbox - at 7 rue paradis.
The address is originally a residential building in Marseille in a kingdom by the sea(1), which I repeatedly stumbled upon by chance during three different visits to the city, as if drawn by a red thread, while strolling from different directions – a secret harbour – as if magically attracted. The photographs were taken while exploring the exterior and interior architecture – the transition from outside to inside – following the quiet thread – longing for a person... somewhere else or there after all?(2)
If you wish, you may choose a photo postcard(3) of 7, rue paradis and write down a magical or surprising or loving experience you have had, e.g. while (sound) walking or strolling freely, and send it to a loved one or a stranger.
The longings will be written down and inscribed in the great 7, rue paradis tous les habitants du monde – strengthening and alluring whispers of longings – sehnfleuse – seenflüsse – sehnflüsse – windflüste – souflaneuse – souflueste – soflueste.
Christian Nappert. 2025
1 Annabel Lee. Edgar Allan Poe
2 A practice described inter alia in the 1920s by a small group of artists in Paris and elsewhere.
3 Dominique Piazza, a resident of Marseille, invented the photo postcard in 1891. You are free to fill/empty or shape the card.
You are also welcome to add your own image motif.
4 Suggestion: Walking from Scores e.g. The Resounding Flâneuse. Elena Biserna for more readings and ideas on Soundwalking
