5 July 2026 16:00–17:15
The soirée, themed "Out/Side/In," aims to explore how music can represent and make tangible Christian experiences and longings that arise from engaging with the Bible. The musical form and the uplifting music, set to texts and themes of faith, seek to evoke emotions in the listeners, offering comfort and guidance. Christian faith, from each individual's perspective, attempts to open avenues for active engagement with the perceived transcendence. This intermediate realm between the profane and the sacred is particularly imbued in the Christian faith through the study of the Bible's messages, as if sounds and statements within it seem to migrate from page to page. The musical form and the uplifting music, set to texts and themes of faith, aim to evoke emotions in the listeners, offering comfort and guidance. We do not force anyone to believe; we invite you to listen and reflect. The listener is encouraged to perceive for themselves and to critically examine their own perspective. They are invited to participate, in this case, by singing along. On the theme of "peace" (a profoundly human longing, more pressing than ever in these times), texts and songs by Paul Gerhardt, the great Lutheran hymn writer whose 350th death anniversary the Protestant Church is commemorating this year, will be presented. Paul Gerhardt also spent some time in Berlin. His hymns and original compositions will be performed alongside works by Christian Sprenger, Richard Roblee, Leonard Cohen, Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Dieter Wendel, and Johann Georg Ebeling, among others.

Posaunenchor der Paulus-Gemeinde Berlin-Neukölln

The trombone choir (brass ensemble) is a group within the Paulus Church in Berlin-Neukölln, part of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK). The choir's primary focus is performing during church services and other events within the Paulus Church. There, the choir participates in the concert series "Music for Passiontide" and "Advent Music by Candlelight." For many years, the choir has presented its own concert at its home church as part of the "48 Hours Neukölln" cultural festival. Furthermore, for over a decade, it has performed at the "Alt-Rixdorf Christmas Market" on the weekend of the second Sunday of Advent, appearing on the main stage in Richardplatz as part of the cultural program, singing Advent and Christmas carols.
