How a place is perceived depends on the “mental map” with which people approach it.
The exhibited cartographies exemplarily illustrate the complexity of Tempelhofer Feld. Combined, they form a complex web of boundary lines, zones and markings. Some are interrelated or overlap, while others ignore or intersect each other.
The maps are complemented by photographs, including documentation of weather phenomena recorded by the Field Coordinators over the years.
Visitors are invited to contribute their own perceptions, experiences and perspectives, expanding and commenting on the map material.
What is “Feldkoordination”?
Following the successful referendum of 2014 and based on the Tempelhofer Feld Act, a unique model of civic participation has emerged. The “Feldkoordination” (Field Coordination) organises citizen participation in shaping the Feld.
The “FeKo” is a body consisting of seven elected citizens as well as representatives of the Senate Administration and Grün Berlin. It is committed to preserving Tempelhofer Feld as a place for nature conservation and recreational activities.
On the Feld, diverse interests, uses and perspectives meet in coexistence and collaboration. Many of these can exist together or in parallel, supporting or benefiting from one another. The prerequisite for this is lived participation – a principle we consider central and vital to a democratic society.
