The work “Life Lines: A Collective Diary” is a participatory, process-based installation that explores the permeability of boundaries between the inner and the outer. The project has been developed over several years and has been actively realized since 2024. The aim is to collect around 100 individual life lines. Through this process, participants create drawings that visualize inner movements, ruptures, repetitions, and transitions in the form of diagrams.
The work begins with the question of how identity takes shape and encounters others: not as a fixed essence, but as an ongoing process. The drawn lines, curves, symbols, and forms emerge from within the participants while also being shaped by external influences—social structures, memories, and collective experiences.
As part of the 48 Stunden Neukölln festival, the artist Felicitas Butt presents “Life Lines: A Collective Diary” in three layers. First, the existing installation is shown: a growing collection of drawings that together form a polyphonic and open cartographic image—a paper carpet of human experiences. This “map” is not a representation of reality but rather a subjective interpretation of inner landscapes.
In addition, around 20 original A4 drawings are displayed on the wall. The third layer introduces an accessible, walk-in space: a reduced and protected environment inviting moments of introspection. Here, visitors to the festival can become part of the work by drawing their own life line. The transition from the public space into this space marks a fluid shift between the outer and the inner.

In her work, she explores social and natural structures and their influence on perception, behavior, and belonging.
