Performance intervention Coming In / Coming Out
Lola Camomilla
5 July 2026 13:00–18:00
Coming In / Coming Out is a performance intervention and live installation by Lola Camomilla exploring visibility, endurance, and queer presence in public space. The work grows out of the artist’s experience of queer migration and the transition from repression to relative freedom.
The piece takes place in everyday urban space rather than in a protected gallery or safe environment. It begins with a 30-minute live performance combining drag, contemporary dance, and body-based practices, with original music created together with composer Alina Anufrienko. The performative moment then slowly shifts into a durational live installation.
The artist enters a wooden wardrobe referencing the idea of the closet and remains inside for 3 to 6 hours. The wardrobe becomes both shelter and exposure, a space that questions what it means to hide, to appear, and to remain visible. From within it the artist writes a diary in real time, reflecting on queer experience, vulnerability, fear, and moments of freedom in everyday city life.
Passersby and visitors become part of the work. They may stop, observe, ask questions, or simply share the space, shaping the atmosphere of the piece through their presence.
