“Wall to Wall” – Elias James Hamman
The sound installation “Wall to Wall” by Elias James Hamman explores the experience of living in the closest proximity. Through an interactive construction, a space is created that visitors can actively explore. By listening, they become part of what surrounds us – part of an acoustic neighborhood.
“Wall to Wall” reflects on life in immediate closeness and the illusion of closed systems. We believe ourselves to be separate – and yet we are constantly surrounded by the lives of others.
Here, the wall becomes a permeable membrane: it separates and connects at the same time. Proximity and distance coexist, rendering the boundary between private and public fragile.
“Incorporate” – Xabel Rude
Two bodies, formed from bread, encounter each other, touch – and begin to eat one another. As they incorporate each other, they lose their original shape, disintegrate, and continually emerge anew.
Bread stands for everyday life, nourishment, and intimacy, but also for dependency and consumption. In the act of eating, the boundary between “I” and “You” dissolves. Care and violence exist in close proximity; tenderness and destruction become indistinguishable.
The series understands relationship not as a fixed state, but as an ongoing process of dissolution and renewal. It suggests that relationships require work – on oneself and with the other. Identity is not preserved, but constantly renegotiated.
