Territories of the In-Between / Interspaces

GAJEK

4 July 2026 12:00–22:00
Painting presentation.

This presentation brings together paintings exploring moments of estrangement, inner distance, and the feeling of not fully belonging within the urban environment. Animals appear as alter egos—symbols of nature and of the remaining wildness humans still carry despite architecture, social structures, and systems of order.

The works move through in-between spaces: between inside and outside, closeness and withdrawal, the individual and collective systems. Reduced architectural fragments and subtle visual shifts create tensions where perception and orientation become unstable.

Some parts of the works use anaglyph technique. Simple red–blue 3D glasses reveal slight spatial displacements that intensify the experience of being “in between.” The paintings can also be viewed without them.

Biography

GAJEK

GAJEK (Agnieszka Kraus), born in 1982 in Chorzów, Poland, lives and works in Berlin. She studied painting and screen printing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (MA, 2008) and completed a study period at Marmara University in Istanbul. For her diploma she received the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award. She represented Poland at the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM) in 2008 in Bari and in 2009 in Skopje. In her practice, painting functions both as a medium and an analytical tool. Techniques such as anaglyph imaging and CMYK color layering explore perception, belonging, and the shifting boundaries between inner and outer spaces.
