The Myth of a Myth revisits the figure of Penelope through a contemporary feminist perspective, challenging the traditional narrative that presents her as the faithful wife patiently waiting for the return of Odysseus. Instead of loyalty and devotion, the project proposes another reading of her actions. Penelope’s weaving and unraveling becomes a strategy to manipulate time. By endlessly postponing the choice of a new husband, she allows time to pass, her body to age, and the pressure around her to weaken.

Within this interpretation, waiting becomes an act of resistance. Growing older is not a tragedy but a conscious tactic. As time marks her body, the possibility of remarriage becomes less desirable to the men surrounding her. In this reading, Penelope is not waiting for Odysseus to return; she is hoping he is gone. What she seeks is not reunion, but the freedom to remain alone and outside the expectations imposed on her.

The installation combines materials with skin-like qualities such as latex and silicone together with stitched textiles and human hair. These materials evoke the body as a surface where time leaves visible traces. Soft yet resistant, they suggest both vulnerability and endurance, emphasizing the capacity of the body to age, adapt, and transform.

Through this reinterpretation, Penelope appears not as a passive figure but as a self-determined presence who uses time as her ally. The project questions inherited symbols of loyalty and patience and proposes a reading of the myth centered on autonomy, resistance, and the radical possibility of choosing solitude.
