In-between places are transitional spaces. Places you don't arrive at but pause in, places where one rests between destinations . They lie along routes and
infrastructures, a flickering image in the distance. Gas stations, snack bars,
parking lots. Stairs!
They are the connection between here and there, between above and below, between inside and outside. They are also an ideal place for a short break or a brief encounter.
During two years, the artist duo "DuoDe" captured these moments in a travel diary, in words and pictures. Photographer Naïma Erhart documented the in-between places with analog 35 mm and medium format cameras in black and white. Author Luciana Ferrando recorded in her notebooks the (sometimes pragmatic, sometimes dreamlike) experience of being in these places.
The idea emerged on a road trip between Berlin and Leipzig. It continued in France, Spain, Thailand, and Denmark. It took shape as a reportage and fanzine. And at 48 Stunden Neukölln, it will be presented as a new street exhibition.
The Kindl staircase is also considered an in-between and meeting place: it is always there, yet lively and in motion. With large-format images and texts glued on its walls, as well as a public reading, the artists want to bring these "in-between places" to life for the people from the neighborhood and festival visitors.

DuoDe: Luciana Ferrando und Naïma Erhart
Naïma Erhart is a photographer who lives between Leipzig and Neukölln. She mostly works with analog formats and has participated in several group exhibitions. She also photographs for the taz newspaper and works as a graphic and motion designer.
Luciana Ferrando is a freelance journalist and author. She writes columns, reports, and portraits for various German media. She participates in open mics and readings and also works as a bookseller. She has been living in Neukölln since 2011.
As "DuoDe," they work for the taz newspaper, produced a series of reports in Thailand (including on female Muay Thai), and have been developing the project "Nicht Orte" (Non-Places) since 2023, presented as "Zwischenorte" (In-Between Places) at 48 Stunden Neukölln.
