Alien Landscapes: topographies of becoming
Cansu Tekin, Max Steimel
3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
Alien Landscapes: Topographies of Becoming is a multisensory installation that transforms inner emotional states into tangible landscapes. Seven oval ceramic wall sculptures unfold like small introspective terrains. Some surfaces appear chaotic, others rhythmic, all oscillating between bodily experience and a sense of estrangement.
Natural materials such as moss, dried flowers, branches, and string intertwine with the ceramics, forming fragile ecosystems around each piece. These elements evoke processes of decay, renewal, and transformation, reflecting the transient nature of both emotional states and living environments.
Each sculpture represents a specific emotional state: anxiety, fear, lust, rage, grief, relief, and hope. Rather than presenting emotions as fixed internal conditions, the installation approaches them as shifting terrains that we move through over time. Feelings become landscapes that can be observed, approached, and inhabited.
A specially composed ambient soundscape accompanies the installation and can be accessed by visitors via a QR code, allowing them to listen individually while moving through the work. In this way, the sonic layer becomes a personal encounter, unfolding alongside the visual experience.
By externalizing these inner experiences, the work blurs the boundary between the psychological and the physical world. Emotions appear as fragile topographies shaped by tension, erosion, rupture, and renewal. Visitors are invited to pause and reflect on their own inner landscapes and the ongoing processes through which identity, emotion, and environment continuously reshape one another.
