Anatomy of a Scam

Berlin promised me a roof.
In return, it asked for everything:
my ID, my Schufa
and last, a Kaution.
I wrote to strangers,
I saved photos of rooms I will never enter,
I read perfect lies signed with gentle names,
In browser tabs I can't close.
I respond with care, I cut and collage.
Because even a dream, sometimes, needs to be archived.

Biography
Anila Shehaj
Anila Shehaj is an Albanian architect and researcher based in Berlin. Trained in Venice and Hong Kong, she learned that architecture is never about construction, but rather about who gets in. Her work investigates housing precarity through installation, performance, and narrative, using real documents and lived experiences to expose the invisible systems that govern access to the city. She is the founder of Traumraum, a long-term research project on housing urgency and scams. In Anatomy of a Scam, she appears as Eva Kuta, a name for everyone who paid for a door that never opened.
