Loneliness

Svetlana Pokrovskya

3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
Loneliness both frees us and locks us in. Once I felt as if it tore me apart into pieces. I could not move. I wanted to take someone by the hand, but it seemed as if I had no hands at all.
In this project, pieces of the human body are immersed in the earth. The earth is the beginning and the end, the only moments when a person is truly alone, “for you are dust and to dust you shall return”.* Remaining in Loneliness, continuously thinking about oneself, one becomes immersed in this primordial substance. The boundaries between reality and timelessness are blurring.
Through ceramics, I interpret my experiences, turning to the outer shell of my being. Here I turn the inner side of this shell toward the viewer, thus revealing a person’s state of isolation, their loneliness

*Bible, Genesis 3:19

Biography

Svetlana Pokrovskya

I am the artist Svetlana Pokrovskaya. I moved to Berlin two years ago. Emigrating and moving to a new environment is a difficult time. The main themes of my work at present are reflections on my former life in my homeland, the search for my true self, and an understanding of myself and the individual as a whole during this new, difficult period of ongoing war.
