This project explores where boundaries lie, who defines them, and how they can be reimagined through two different approaches to the body. One is the structured body of classical ballet. The other is a body positioned as a minority within social, cultural, and political contexts.
Yet these two bodies cannot be clearly separated. They move along a boundary (SIDE) between the external environment (OUT) and internal experience (IN). A body trained in order and discipline responds to music, social rules, gazes, and systems while living within its own rhythm that never fully synchronizes with the outside world.
Within this program, two works are presented: a collaborative piece by Ayano Tatekawa and Ain Tominaga, and a work by Akane Kuri accompanied by live piano by Adi Neuhaus. (July 5: solo without piano) The performances will take place on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th at Ev. Brüdergemeine.
The movements in these works do not aim to reproduce emotions or tell stories. Instead, they emerge from overlapping states such as past and present, visibility and invisibility, belonging and otherness.
The experience of the body can appear differently depending on context. In Japan, the body may be visible without being heard; in Germany, it may be perceived and respected. These asymmetries leave traces in the body and influence its qualities and decisions.
The aim of this work is not to heroically cross boundaries. Instead, it remains at the border and investigates how decisions become possible within ambiguity. OUT / SIDE / IN does not describe a linear transition: the outside (OUT) is already inscribed within the inside (IN).
Through the body, the project redraws the map of identity and belonging, understanding boundaries not as limits but as open and transformable spaces.
