Turkish Damat Halayı – Bridging Perception and Reality Through Dance
Gizem Kaya
5 July 2026 18:45–19:00
This participatory performance workshop explores borders as lived, bodily experiences rather than fixed political lines. Centered on Damat Alayı, a traditional Turkish wedding procession dance, the project repositions a cultural ritual as a shared space of encounter among unfamiliar participants. Through simple collective movement, rhythm, and attention, participants co-create a temporary community in motion. Working somatically, the workshop invites participants to experience how identity, belonging, and distance are negotiated through the body. Physical proximity and shared timing blur inside–outside distinctions and reveal connection as something actively practiced.
