3 July 2026 19:00 – 5 July 2026 19:00
A Soft Place to Land is a space between inside and outside, human and animal, dream and reality. The series of four works depicts hands, animal and human figures, and hybrids as threshold beings, making intimacy, ambivalence, and the longing for support tangible.

Boundaries are not fixed and are not crossed, but felt – as permeable transitions. Nothing is final. What remains is the space between beings, their touches and overlaps – soft and transient, yet secure, as human existence itself is open and in flux.

The painting process, made visible through an accompanying video work, is performative and follows an animistic approach: cotton fabric laid on the floor is painted directly with ink, India ink, and water using the artist’s hands. The process consciously follows chance and is guided by intuition, not controlled or mastered.

Biography

Sinem Vardar

Sinem Vardar (1991, İzmir, Turkey) is a self-taught artist and poet. She developed the practice of abstract animistic expressionism, in which the conscious and unconscious, human and animal, as well as dream and reality, enter into dynamic relationships. Vardar paints directly with her hands, using ink and water on cotton fabric – impulsively, instinctively, and without a predetermined plan.

Rooted in an animistic worldview, her paintings dissolve the boundaries of time, form, and perception. Animals, mythological figures, and dreamscapes appear as guides, connecting the subconscious with the conscious and linking the individual with the collective. Each work is a living event: shaped yet fluid, dense yet always in the process of becoming.
