Daumenlutscher Berlin proudly presents "Breaking the Silence: Exploring Urban Soundscapes," featuring an eclectic mix of international and multigenerational artists: Aleksandra, Cédric Ballesteros, Tina Bepperling, Xiyu Huang, Riccardo Matlakas, Yana Smetanina, Sarah Schultz, Mose Ernest Tolliver, Xiaoxiao Wang, Dominique Suberville, Emily Wisniewski, Peng Xiangheng, and Mao Yuqiu. The gallery space showcases their paintings, providing a backdrop for diverse performances and installations.
Aleksandra's "Ola I-III" is a three-part abstract animation exploring fragile emotional encounters and missed connections within urban landscapes.
Sarah Schultz’s “Chance and Class: A Tombola of Reality” prompts participants to draw their social roles by lot, questioning the advantages of wealth and success versus the role of chance and societal inequality.
Yana Smetanina’s "Presence," a live performance on June 28, transforms visitor voices into urban poetry, capturing the essence of the moment in a dynamic sound installation.
Dominique Suberville’s "My Dear Child," a multimedia sound installation, addresses global migration and xenophobia through a letter to her newborn son, exploring cultural barriers and societal tensions.
Cédric Ballesteros presents a reflective performance on urban isolation on Saturday at 8:30 pm, encouraging contemplation on social behaviors and human connections.
Fabian Drung’s "Urban Landscapes: A DJ Set" from 7-9 pm on Saturday offers a sonic exploration of urban environments through lo-fi music.
"Breaking the Silence - Urban Soundscapes" invites reflection on urban life’s sounds and silences, promising a dynamic exploration of diverse artistic perspectives.

Biography

Aleksandra, Cédric Ballesteros, Yana Smetanina, Sarah Schultz, Dominique Suberville, Fabian Drung

Daumenlutscher presents a diverse selection of artists from various countries and at different stages of their careers. Mexican artist Dominique Suberville, who has exhibited internationally and most recently at the Mexican Embassy in Berlin, is showcased alongside emerging painter Cédric Ballesteros, debuting at the space. Fabian Drung is both a painter and musician. Yana Smetanina is a multidisciplinary artist, independent curator, and researcher, nominated for the Kandinsky Prize in 2013 and winner of the Simply Prize in 2014 in Moscow. Berlin artist Sarah Schultz works at the intersection of society, art, and education. Aleksandra explores emotional states through abstraction in her drawings, writings, and animations.
