Love Lies Bruising

Love Lies Bruising began as a calendar project for the Berlin Bruisers, a queer and trans-inclusive rugby club. Inspired by the concept of the Firefighter Calendar, the idea was to collaboratively develop our own artistic tribute. The analog work focuses on a queer perspective that plays with sapphic motifs as well as with the performance of gender. While I approached the project with an artistic vision, collaborative work on equal footing was important to me: not only as a photographer, but also as part of the FLINTA* team.
Biography
L.A. Evans
L. A. Evans is a writer, photographer, and political educator working at the intersection of theory and practice. Luan has exhibited at venues including Bethanien, GlogauAIR, and Filmspeed Lab, and was part of the “Beyond the Frame” project by Neue Deutsche Medienmacher:innen. Luan has studied at Photocentrum Berlin and Ostkreuzschule. Their photography focuses on (trans)masculinities, queerness, and religion. Their journalistic work has been published in Missy Magazine, taz, and Siegessäule, among others, and their poetry has also been published. Luan studied philosophy and political science in Berlin and Philadelphia, among other places. While pursuing a master’s degree, Luan co-leads the interdisciplinary research project “Love, Friendship, Revolution” at the FU Berlin.
