there is another colour to the sky, it seems

The sky provides a backdrop to our stories, our memories and inner states. A powerful metaphor and symbol, we project our emotional states on it; conversely, it also defines our inner state.
Using photos from my personal archive, I focus on this alternating perspective the sky-as-metaphor provides. Through a small intervention in the compositions, I attempt to erase the context. Stripped from its context, what does the sky, which was originally charged with emotion for me, even mean? Is it possible for me see these images in another context, for I still have the memory of it? As for the viewer, as an outsider, the implied context in frame might mean something entirely different. Now that the context is no longer there, the image of the sky becomes a canvas to project on.

Biography
Zeynep Arıkan
In my works, I am interested in exploring the way in which ordinary elements from everyday life relate to personal and collective memory. I work with drawings, photographs, objects, and text, welcoming the associations they create together. I like to work with fragments, assembling and disassembling components with an emphasis on empty space.
